After spending several years in the sod and landscaping industry, Shannon McLaughlin decided to start Sod Pro LLC in August 2008. Shannon realized the need for a company that could concentrate on changing residential lawns from Fescue to warm season grasses. Fescue is a cool season turf that thrives in climates where cooler temperatures are prevelant for most of the year. Given the increase in the heat that we experience here in NC, Fescue simply does not perform well. Additionally, fescue requires an enourmous amount of water in order to survive, and with the concern over water many towns and cities have imposed water restrictions. This makes it practically imposible to have a great looking fescue lawn. All these factors (besides the fact that homeowners are simply tired of the constant maintence of fescue) are pushing more and more property owners to take a serious look at more heat tollerant grasses such as bermuda and zoysia. Consequently, Sod Pro has emerged as an industry leader in renovating lawns from cool season to warm season grasses.
Many landscape companies simply do not have the experience and knowledge to adequately inform customers concerning grass varieties. Given Shannon's background in the sod industry, he is able to educate customers as to the different grass varieties that are available in our area. Then our clients are able to make a sound, well informed decision on which variety will perform best in their yard.
Our customers were so pleased with our sod work that they began requesting that we provide additional services. Consequently, Sod Pro has evolved into a full landscape installation company.
